Farm Happenings for April 30, 2020

Posted on April 27th, 2020 by Andrea McAdow

Is it feeling hot in here? Phew, we're looking at a week of mid to high nineties. If you need us you can catch us in the field watering and watering and watering some more. When things go from cool to hot so quickly (didn't we just have a frost?!) our plants get stressed and so do we. Its important to keep them shaded and well watered so they can hopefully push through the changes. Newly seeded crops have to be watered multiple times a day and covered with fabric to help them germinate well.

On the other hand, our squash and cucumbers seem to love it! So those guys will be chugging along.

We will most definitely be grabbing a few extra bags of ice this week to keep everything cool for deliveries and pick up. An extra iced coffee stop might be added to the route too!

In your boxes this week we have lots of cauliflower to go around. They're the most beautiful shades of purple, orange, and white. My favorite way to use them is roasted up with olive oil and salt (this is a recurring theme in my cooking).

I'm thinking of adding some roasted cauliflower to a buddha bowl. Salad greens topped with quinoa, avocado, radishes, parsley, and homemade tahini dressing. Yum!

pS I know were only a few weeks into our Spring season but it might be a good time to lock in your fall spot as well. We're about 1/3rd of the way sold out currently. We're also already starting to plan for our fall and winter plantings and hoping to work in a few new crops!

See you Thursday!
