Farm Happenings for October 10, 2018: Week 19 out of 20!

Posted on October 5th, 2018 by Robinette Farms

This is week 19 out of 20! If you have a bi-weekly share, this week may be your last pick up for the summer season!

  • If you have signed up for the Fall CSA, pick up begins Wednesday, October 24th.
  • Pick up will be at Goldenrod Pastries from 4-6pm.
  • Goldenrod closes at 6pm so don't be late!

This has been a really wet fall so far and we are hoping that our storage roots (pictured above) continue to thrive even with damp soils. Pictured above are a variety of storage roots: red radish, watermelon radish (pink one), classic red beet, black radish, purple top turnip, carrots and salad turnips. Soon it will be time for us to harvest all of these at once and hold them in our coolers for distribution for as long as they last.

Our goal is to be able to provide local food for as long as possible to our Members who love to know where their food comes from! One farm we follow on social media who does an amazing job of this is Pete's Greens in northern Vermont. It is Farmer Pete's goal that "vermont feed itself", and with an even shorter season than we have here in Nebraska, he is doing just that! Check them out on Facebook or Instagram! I figure if Pete can do it in Vermont then I can do it here! ;)

We are planning to stay in touch as the Summer season ends and Fall begins. Even if you are not a Fall Member, we will stay in touch via email to keep you updated about where you can find our veggies this Fall, what's happening on the farm and all the details about Summer 2019 registration which opens in January! And don't forget about the CSA Facebook Page! We will continue posting recipes, cheat sheets and other important info there all winter!

We love hearing from you and are always looking for feedback (positive or negative)! If you'd like to get in touch email us anytime at farmers@robinettefarms.com

Happy Eating!
Farmer Chloe
