Farm Happening Week 14

Posted on September 6th, 2022 by Anna Bunk

Hello Farmshare Members,

Fall is in the air! The light is changing and we are beginning to see the flocks of Canadian Geese who stop in Sequim before continuing their journey south. The harvest crew is starting just a little later in the mornings and we are all hoping for a long sunny autumn!

In your box this week you may find some beautiful fennel bulbs. This aromatic vegetable will bring flavor to any dish! It's wonderful both raw and cooked. Sliced thin in a salad fennel has a mild licorice flavor. It can also be sauteed or roasted creating a savory/sweet flavor not unlike an onion or celery. The fronds are also a great addition to salad dressings and marinade. And both the bulb and frond lend lots of flavor to soups and broth. It also makes a fabulous quick pickle!

Also in your box this week you might find Broccoli or Cauliflower. You could try broccoli salad with shaved fennel or perhaps roasted roasted cauliflower and fennel? Yum!

Enjoy,

The River Run Team
