Farm Happenings for June 17, 2020

Posted on June 15th, 2020 by Anna Bunk

Greetings Farmshare members!

We are pleased to have completed the first week of our new customizable shares with only a few hiccups along the way! Thank you everyone for your patience as we troubleshoot some of the kinks that have come up. This week should be smooth as butter!

We are excited to have strawberries to share this week. We only have a limited quantity so not everyone will be getting them in their boxes...but very soon we will be rolling in them. To me, the beginning of strawberry harvest marks the start of summer (although you would never know it with this cool rainy weather we've been getting).

Here's a tip: if you're dying for some strawberries and don't see them in your share, edit your preferences on Harvie, giving strawberries a high rating. This will make it more likely that they will show up in your share next week.

Many of you will see garlic scapes in your share- another flavor that marks the transition of spring to summer. The scapes are the tender flower stalk and bud of the garlic plant. Only the hardneck varieties produce these edible scapes and only for a few weeks each spring. Delicious and fleeting.

We will continue to offer flour from our neighbor, Nash's Organic Farm. Check the "extras" to try out their Rye Flour, Hard Red Wheat, or Buckwheat flour- all milled fresh for us this month!

This week we have three more crew mates joining us and our team is now complete! Harvest season has truly begun.

We hope you enjoy your shares this week! And we are ever grateful for your support,

The River Run crew
