Farm Happenings for October 8, 2019 (WEEK 18)

Posted on October 4th, 2019 by Neil Stauffer

Hello. It's Friday as I write this and the cool weather feels so good. After sweating it out the first few days of October, me and the crew are ready for the relief of Autumn days. As you can see in the picture, we spent time pulling out our entire crop of cucumbers and replanting with winter crops in their place.

Many of you will be receiving a unique seasonal product in your boxes--fresh ginger. This greenhouse crop is harvested once a year. Unlike the thick-skinned version of ginger you find in a grocery store, this crop has almost no skin and a bright pink color. You can use it in place of dried ginger in any recipe. It also plays nicely in tea and smoothies.

We also have fennel in the CSA boxes for the fist time this week. Check out the recipes listed in the email for cooking ideas. It's another seasonal delicacy that won't be around very long.

In case you're wondering, the CSA is a 22 week season. So we are down to our last month. Tuesday November 5 will be the last delivery of the year. Thanks again for your ongoing support. We hope you enjoy your October boxes!

On behalf of the crew,

Farmer Neil
