Farm Happenings for July 30, 2020

Posted on July 25th, 2020 by Bob Baker

Good Afternoon Members  -Majestic is a fitting word for this extraordinary sight we see at the Farm - the nest is located at the end of one of our fields and thought you would enjoy the view!!!

Overall I believe, we have been able to offer you a good variety of vegetables for your choices and a good quality of product.  This week, we will not be offering lettuce - the heat has brought to an end the first round of lettuce that was planted - another round is already in the fields growing.

We will be offering Patty Pan Squash in your shares this week - SCALLOP YELLOW BUSH SUMMER SQUASH - 4 G ~55 SEEDS - GARDEN - AKA: PATTY PAN

Patty pan squash is a small, scalloped, round summer squash that is just as healthy as it is delicious (particularly when it's stuffed patty pan squash!). The name "patty pan" is derived from "a pan for baking a patty." It has a creamy texture and buttery flavor.

Other new vegetables making their way onto your tables this week are green bell peppers sounds like grill time (Put peppers and onions in a grill basket or directly on the grill, turning occasionally until they are softened and dark at the edges, 10 to 12 minutes. Move them to the side of the grill without coals. Place the sausages on the hot side of the grill, cover and cook, turning occasionally until they are cooked thoroughly)

The other first timer is another summer favorite fresh green beans - here is a substitute for the chips or french fries -

Beer-battered green beans— they're just as good as you'd think!

This will be our first week for fruit shares - and I know there has been some confusion concerning them - we partner with Altamont Orchards to supply the fruit shares - for the season - there are 5 fruits shares - usually one in July - two in August - and two in September - this schedule may change due to the ripening of the fruit - I will keep you updated on the dates - there are no choices with the fruit shares - as soon as I know what will be picked for your shares I will send out an email and let you know -

We continue to bring lots of farm fresh vegetables to the Food Bank to feed those in need in our community - and thank you again for your partnership as you support the Farm through the CSA program!

Enjoy your weekend - Enjoy the veggies and fruits - And Especially Enjoy your time with Family and Friends -

Very best, Bob
