Farm Happenings for October 31, 2020

Posted on October 28th, 2020 by Ben Sayler

Greetings from the Farm!

It's garlic planting time at the NEW farm. We are working to get the 2021 garlic crop planted this week. Each clove of a bulb is used as the 'seed' that will grow into a garlic plant. We hand plant them into a plastic mulch late fall, they sprout, and then go dormant during the very cold days of winter. When temperatures rise in late winter the plants are ready to grow very rapidly. In June the flower shoots, or scapes, are harvested. The bulbs are usually ready to be picked the first week of July. Garlic is one of our favorite plants to grow on the farm.

Also on the new farm we have seeded spinach, radishes, turnips, and salad greens.

We have lots of new items on the menu this week. Be sure to scroll through the list to see all we have to offer!

Farm Extras shares will be getting a loaf of bread.
