Farm Happenings for January 16, 2022

Posted on January 3rd, 2022 by Grayson Crane

Well we made it through the snow! It's just about gone now, and a quick field walk this morning revealed that the snow did a great job insulating the remaining greens in the field from the very cold temps we just experienced. Hope you all made it through warm and safe!

While the animals weren't really into the cold (except the maremmas, our livestock guardian dogs) and I was a little stressed about pipes, it was a welcome break to our strangely warm winter. With our super wet conditions in Western WA, we're sort of a parasite/pathogen heaven--and without colder temperatures in the winter those little bugs, worms, and bacteria just keep cranking. I know I breathed a little sigh of relief when it got cold.

This week brings lots of greens and some of the stored roots we're still working through. Stay tuned for a 2022 main season CSA announcement coming in the next couple weeks!

As a reminder, this is our last winter box--with COVID levels spiking again, please let me know if you are not comfortable picking up from the market and we can work to make other arrangements. For everyone, if you'd like to pick up before the market starts, you're welcome to come by our booth as early as 10:00am to get your share.

Thanks!

Grayson
