Farm Happenings for July 9, 2020

Posted on July 7th, 2020 by Liz Gorzo

Hello Everyone,

Wow has it been hot the last few days.

Did you know that some vegetables stop growing in such high temperatures?  Celery Root stops growing when its hotter then 28 degrees Celsius. Some plants thrive in hot hot temperatures like some of the hot pepper varieties.  Extreme weather conditions can affect our produce in many ways.  If we have very dry weather our radishes, onions and garlic are spicier.

On the farm this week I haven't done too much except water, water, water.  Watering in the evenings, and only a little during the day if absolutely needed. It's also important to try to water the soil and not get water on the leaves of plants; could lead to scorching/burning the leaves from the hot sun.

We are heading into our second month with Harvie and being able to customize your deliveries/pick ups. I know there have been some learning curves and frustrations... I hope being able to customize weekly will be a benefit that outweighs the some of your struggles.  Your patience is greatly appreciated.   Please do not hesitate to contact Harvie support or myself if you have any questions or need help.

Thanks so much. Stay Safe and Healthy.

Liz
