It's A Complicated Game

Posted on June 17th, 2023 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 5!

Things are humming along over here.  Lest you think we run around our fields barefoot all day with tomato juice dripping down our chins (much like our children!), we are here to report that keeping a farm business running through the height of summer (I know, it's not officially summer yet, but it's been "farmer summer" for 5 weeks already!) is a complicated game.  On top of weekly seedings, transplanting, harvesting, washing, packing and hoeing, we tackled re-covering one of our older high tunnels last week.  Albeit we hired an extra person (thanks Jake!) to help, it was still a big task to remove the current double layer of plastic, install the fresh layers, and secure the sides for another (hopefully) 6 years of use.

We are almost caught up thanks to our hard working crew, but gosh, I swear I just blinked and when I opened my eyes there were 800 heads of broccolini to harvest!  Needless to say, we have an abundance of beautiful produce right now, including broccolini.  We hope you enjoy eating fresh!
