Welcome to Week 16!

Posted on September 10th, 2022 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 16!  There are four weeks remaining in the CSA, including the 9/14 and 9/17 deliveries.

We are in transition mode, big time, over here, as we prepare for a new baby (due mid-October) and as we remove summer crops and seed or transplant fall and winter crops.  The sowing dates for our fall and winter crops are very precise, as a day off now could mean a month or more delay at harvest time mid-winter!  That means we are frequently harvesting one crop, pulling it out the same day, and seeding or transplanting another crop into the same space right after.  A good example this week was shishito peppers: we harvested them all, pulled all the plants, amended the bed, then seeded spinach into the same bed all within a few hours!

Though we've had a revolving door of crew members this season, we've never been too short staffed for too long.  Now is no exception: we lost two stellar crew members, Jake and Jordyn, last week, but gained equally-stellar Corina.  We thought we would be short staffed going into fall, but we were able to hire another stellar candidate to start Monday 9/12 and help us cruise more easily through fall.

We will start offering more fall crops in the last three weeks of the CSA.  For now, soak up the fruits of summer!  Peppers!  Tomatoes!  Cucumbers!  Eggplant!  Enjoy the bounty and have a great week!
