Week 10 - Tomato Time!

Posted on July 30th, 2022 by Katherine Nietmann

Welcome to Week 10!  This is the halfway point through the CSA season.

A friendly reminder: Please bring your own bag to pick up.  Thanks so much!

After a long wait, tomato season is fully upon us.  We have ample cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and even the red tomatoes are starting to come in and we have a few of those available this week.  Still to come are paste tomatoes, and bell and snacking peppers are close behind. It feels great to be able to offer beautiful tomatoes to you all, albeit much later than planned, and we're all over the moon to be feasting on them as well!

New this week is eggplant, which starts to trickle in before coming at us full force.  Snag one this week, but know there will be lots more in the weeks to come.  We also now have zinnias, which is the latest we've ever started to harvest zinnias thanks to our cool, wet spring.

For those who ask, our cherry tomato varieties are Sakura (red), Citrine (orange) and Chocolate Sprinkles (red/purple striped).  Despite their notoriety, we don't grow Sun Gold because we find the plants too unruly to prune efficiently and the fruits crack too easily.  The orange cherry we grow is a certified organic seed bred by Johnny's that ticks all our boxes for taste, ease and durability.  We hope you enjoy them!
