Farm Happenings for May 28, 2022

Posted on May 21st, 2022 by Jessica Linton

It is feeling like summer here in the Shenandoah Valley. We have had two back to back 90 degree days so my husband and I are rushing to put in our window units so we have a respite when we come in from hot days in the fields. With this hot weather, our grass is growing like gangbusters so our cows, sheep, chickens, and ducks are all happily munching away on fresh spring grass. Just like our animals are enjoying fresh greens, we have tons of delicious greens to offer you all this week! Allison at Hayou Farm is our green goddess and I love creating salads, smoothies, and bowls using her kale or swiss chard as the base. Unless you grow your own garden it is rare to enjoy greens harvested just the day before. Greens you see at the grocery store are stored at a careful temperature and moisture to retain maximum freshness for weeks but nothing can beat freshly harvested.

This Saturday we will also be holding a pop up farm stand at the Charter Colony Charter House. We will have veggies, fruits, breads, meats, and flowers for sale and I would love to meet all the incredible members of our Meadow Wood Farm community. Stop by from 11-5 to supplement your order or just to chat and tell your neighbors!
