Winter share #2

Posted on December 10th, 2018 by Timothy Lyon

Winter share #2 is coming! We'll spend most of Weds root washing, drying, sorting and bagging veggies. And we're in the middle of setting up our new Winter pickup location at Ktect (785 Sir John A.)

Alternate location

As the temperatures go sub-zero, our cooler at the Barn is ineffective, and packing boxes there a chilly task. We'll use our alternate location for packing and pickup Dec-April. Ktect built us a prototype cooler which is efficient and located inside a warehouse suitable for aggregating and storing share contents prior to and during pickup. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it by turning off Sir John A near Princess St and following the signs for Unit 6A in past Metalcraft Marine and Kingston Symphony. When you arrive, come to the farthest door at Ktect and we'll have your box ready inside.

Ghost squash & taters

Our friend Ed at Honeywagon farms grows tonnes of great squash. He brings them to MCFM, donates them to Lovingspoonful, supplies restaurants, and loves to bake them whole in the oven. We made them by his recipe at our thank you meal for volunteers and helpers a few weeks ago. Rave reviews! So, Ed plans to deliver us some Ghost goodness for you to enjoy. If there isn't one in your basket we suggest you add one. If you've got one, add more! (This month only.) You'll notice we're also featuring Burnt Hill Farm's sweet potatoes again too - don't miss out on those.

Timing

Because we are operating out of another business, and our helpers need to get home afterwards, please come within the 4-6 window. And, if some extenuating circumstance precludes your arrival before 6pm, be sure to call and let us know you're late. For this month you may use my number (613.876.3125), and we'll send you another number to use Jan-Feb while we're away.

Australia

Next Monday we fly to Australia. It's our first Christmas there in 12 years, and we're really looking forward to seeing family and friends, singing carols in the warmth of the park, revisting some old haunts and exploring new places too. We'll be away until Feb 25th, our longest trip down under yet, and we're closing our booth at Memorial Centre Farmers' Market for the first time in 7 years to do it. Big thanks goes out to the helpers who are keeping your Winter shares coming while we're away.

If you have questions you can contact us by e-mail or text, but also use Support at Harvie for any questions to do with your shares too.

Thanks for eating along with us.

Happy Christmas!
