Goodbye cucurbits

Posted on September 24th, 2018 by Timothy Lyon

Dear farm shares, happy fall!

Summer slipped away and fall came, with only an equinox in between them. With Summer have gone many of the cucurbits: patty pans, zucchini and the like are now in short supply. Cucumbers are all done. This morning we cleaned out the cucumber high tunnel and prepped it for fall crops. The dead vines, destroyed by cucumber beetles and company are slowly rotting in the hedgerow.

Now you can look forward to Pac Choi and other cool weather crops for our last month of main season CSA. Thankfully we caught many crops in their prime and put them in the freezer, so summer flavours will emerge to charm you in your Winter shares.

We're greatly enjoying the sun after 10am when it warms us up. Seize your sun basking, even as shorter days approach!
