Farm Happenings October 3rd, 2019

Life on the farm has changed a little with the onset of cooler nights. Production of fruit in the solanaceous vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, potatoes) has slowed down despite the abundant rain. So, we are diverting our energy towards field preparation for next spring: ensuring perennials are tended, and permanent beds are raised as much as possible to drain in the Spring and allow for planting as early as possible. We are grateful for those who come out regularly to help on the farm, and invite those of you who have not been out this year to come and look at the fields. You may like to join us on a Tuesday at Oak St, 5pm for a tour and potluck dinner (bring a dish if you can).

At market we continue to sell our plant-based, gluten-free, oil-free okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancakes/pizza), and many people are eating more vegetables on a Sunday morning by enjoying a warm treat made with produce from the urban farm. You are invited to come out and enjoy a pancake anytime. You can also find our food plated at Northside, where our shishito peppers are currently featured.

Much of the produce for Winter shares will be harvested over the next 2 weeks. Sign up now to ensure your Winter share by checking Auto-renew, or purchasing it online while in your Harvie Account.

For Thanksgiving we'll have a few specials on the Extras list so you can get items in bulk for your thanksgiving feast, or enjoy some of our produce ready-to-eat - keep your eyes open for that next week.

Thanks for eating with us!
