Farm Happenings for the week of August 2, 2022

Posted on July 27th, 2022 by Jessica Foote

Well Hello All,

I am trying to figure out resizing of pictures for Harvie! I don't know why this year it has become a struggle, what has changed? I don't know! But hoping this round works! As pictured above tomatoes are on their way! And flower bouquets are available as add ons for your shares if you want them weekly for the rest of the season! Things are blooming!

Not much is new! I mean we have been hard at work either harvesting, weeding or planting your food for the year! Only one more planting of storage veg to seed! The crazy winter radishes!?! Alongside that is the start of winter greens production planning & planting so we can fulfill your plate with as much variety this winter as locally as possible, while still staying environmentally friendly!

We will be light on greens this week as a lot of head lettuce bolted in the heat last week! I am sure everyone is ready for a change anyhow! There will be mushrooms & cherries added to the share! Yum!Yum! Thanks Palatine Fruits & Roses & Kendal Hill Mushroom Farm!

Roasting chickens will be available after August 14th, and we are still looking for some takers on quarter, half & whole beef, and 15 pasture raised pork! Be fully stocked for the year by this fall! Top it off with a Winter CSA & no more trips to the grocery store required! Hahaha! I think I have been once this month, & really not for anything essential! A soda streamer refill! Between Homestead Harvest bakery, The Foodshop, Tallboy Roasters, Palatine, and Kendal Hills, I find our local eating very satisfying!

We are not putting carrots in the shares this week going to give them more time to size up! I don't know why but they are certainly making us wait this year !?! Many more zucchini, cucumbers & beans are on their way! Along with our first cooking onions & basil!

Look forward to seeing you this week!

Cheers your farmer,

Jess
