Farm Happenings forthe week of September 14, 2021

Posted on September 9th, 2021 by Jessica Foote

This morning we had a beautiful bull calf born to Panda! So cute with his black and white face, we love color!

The fall is finding us very busy, we are finishing our new high tunnel construction, refitting the plastic on our original; it got a few rips over the winter! Planning our race out of the field.....cause you know a frost will come inevitably, sometime, we just don't know when! The birds are grouping in flocks for their flight south, leaves are changing color, we need sweaters in the morning, the signs are all very clear, that the vegetables will need a cozy winter home.

The first planting of winter salad greens went in yesterday, the rest tomorrow. Then in two weeks we will do our second planting in hopes to stagger our greens harvest over the entire winter! Planning and dates are extremely crucial for the winter months because the daylight hours are such a big factor.

In other news our Winter CSA sign up should be active tomorrow, auto-renew for Winter CSA members last year to this winter season will also kick in on September 15th! Summer auto renew and 2022 season will be set up in October! If you wish to opt out do so in your profile!

This week we say good bye to zucchini, green onions, peaches, melons, and cilantro! Bring on apples next week, and welcome rutabaga & fennel to our harvest list! We are taking a break from head lettuce it just isn't growing as fast, and are sourcing mesclun from Willo-Wind because we are in between harvests!

Look forward to seeing you this week!

Cheers your farmer, Jess
