Farm Happenings for the week of September 12, 2020

Posted on September 8th, 2020 by Jessica Foote

Good Morning!

Well 3:30am just seems to call my name. Jen and I never managed to connect yesterday so your stuck with me this week. Hahaha! The season is winding down and up all at once! The variety of crops will slowly reduce as the colder weather sets in, and field tomatoes and peppers stop growing. While we are starting the mad dash to the finish line to get winter crops tucked in and protected for winter storage and eating! Hint, Hint, nudge, nudge, we will be opening up our Winter CSA sign up officially to current members first! We are limited to 50 members so when we give you the go ahead I wouldn't hesitate! We have lot's of fun experiments happening this winter as we once again test our season extension and continue to expand our microgreens offerings.

Fruit available in Extras for purchase this week: grapes, nectarines, purple plums from Palatine Fruit & Roses. Apples & pears from Prima Orchard! You asked we delivered!

Another note watch for Mini Markets to fire up again the week of September 19th!!!

We will also be launching the early bird sign up for 2021 coming soon! We are just trying to work out our commitments and asses where we want to continue offering drop offs! The early bird sign up will see you getting a 25$ farm credit, as well as secure your position for a Summer of great eating in 2021! You probably can't believe that we are already planning 2021 but it is true, we have already started our seed ordering list and our garden layout. Ploughed our new garden field as we will be putting two 3 acre parcels into hay, next spring so they can have a little hay day!

Squash harvest is this week, next week we are planning on harvesting all our potatoes the are struggling with all this rain I very fearful we will get some unwanted rot. We can't win them all but we will certainly try and beat the odds. If anyone wants to join us on a winter harvest and clean just give me a call! Who needs a gym when you have a field to play in!

A little side note on the picture! The girls created that beautiful dish for our lunch Friday! So proud of the kids that are learning how to harvest and cook. Literally straight from the field to the plate within an hour, no recipe just a child's imagination.

Cheers your farmer, Jess

SMILE!
