Week 6 of the CSA - It's getting hot edition!

Posted on July 14th, 2023 by Michael Moss

View from the Tractor

My goodness, the season sure has changed. We went from cool, cloudy and wet to hot, humid and now dry. Next Monday has a forecast high of 100 degrees which will totally shift our work hours earlier.

Gratefully we are seeing a lot of flowers and growth in our summer crops. The squash are really producing with the peppers, eggplants, and cucumbers showing a lot of flowers. Lot's of flowers now means tons of summer fruit to come. Over all our production is still below our forecasts and needs to fill the CSA with the bounty we would like to offer. If the weather gods shine upon us like the sun is now, we will have a gigantic bounty later this month or early August. Until then, we are continuing to monitor share value and add credits into the accounts of members with lower share values. This credit can be used for anything we offer in the CSA.

All of us on the farm appreciate the kind words of support from you. Our members are what really keep us going even when the going seems to be so darn hard.

Thanks so much for being a member of the farm. We can't do this with out you.

Important Updates

The Fruit Share has Begun!

Your Fruit Shares begin THIS WEEK! All of show in the mountains and a proper spring on the Western Slope have really filled the orchards with amazing fruit. I am excited to be starting the fruit share this week.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The fruit share begins THIS WEEK.
  • If you signed up for a Fruit Share, we will be adding fruit directly into your share.
  • Going on vacation or have plans to be out of town in the coming weeks? Please make sure you check your upcoming deliveries schedule to ensure your Fruit Shares are on the weeks you want fruit.
  • If you do not have a fruit share, you can still add fruit to your order as an add-on till the end of the season.

This week's fruit share will contain 2lbs of Perfection Apricots and 3lbs of Rising Star Peaches! The fruit share is not customizable, but you can still add on fruit as an extra to your share whether or not you are subscribed to the Fruit Share itself.

This is the last week for apricots, so if you're an apricot fan like we are, be sure to add these to your bag this week!

Add Ons

We are lucky to be able to partner with the sustainable-grain folks at Pueblo Seed & Food Co in Cortez, CO for nourishing cereals, healthy cookies, and fresh-dried spices. Check out the Pueblo Seed & Food Co goodies in the add-ons and give these fun and tasty offerings a go!

We will continue to offer heirloom wheat pasta from Pastificio, organic Hazel Dell Mushrooms, flowers from Boulder Flower Company and Kilt Farm Raw Honey.

Stay cool this week. Thanks for your support.
