Happy 4th of July - Week 4 of the CSA

Week 4 of the CSA program is here, and tomorrow marks the arrival of July. These milestones hold great significance in the farming season. It's quite astonishing to realize that we're already halfway through 2023, even though it feels like there's still a long journey ahead to reach the peak of the farming year. This week, we've been hustling tirelessly all over the farm. Now that the rain has ceased, the ground has hardened enough for us to prepare beds and plant crops. This includes beans, carrots, fennel, dill, fall bunching greens, and another round of cucumbers and summer squash. The next step will involve transplanting the broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbages, as they're nearly ready for the ground.

As we enter this week, we're delighted to offer you a taste of summer crops with bunches of basil and the initial yield of summer squash. While the tomatoes still require more time, this first batch of basil will provide a glimpse of the delightful flavors to come. We bundle our basil, and if you treat the bunch like a bouquet of flowers and place it in a small glass of water on your counter, it will stay fresh throughout the week, allowing you to pick from it at your leisure.

All of us here at Kilt Farm wish you a safe and joyous 4th of July celebration. If you happen to drive along the Diagonal on Monday or Tuesday, please give us a friendly honk as you pass by the farm. The plants don't take a break in honor of the national holiday, so we continue our dedicated work.

Warm regards, Michael and all the Farmers at Kilt Farm.

Fruit

Apricots

You read that right -- Apricots are in!

While our fruit share does not start till July 18th, you can still add fruit offerings as they become available from our partnering farmers. This week, we are excited to offer Robada Apricots from Kokopelli in Palisade, Colorado.

Bing Cherries

This week we will have 1.3# bags of Bing Cherries

The cherry season in Colorado is short but delicious. These bing cherries are from Blackbear Orchard and are sure to be a hit.
