Equinox opens the door to fall

Posted on September 17th, 2021 by Michael Moss

Hello from a crisp and clear-ish farm.

It really felt like a fall day with low clouds and chilly temp this morning. The fall Equinox is next Tuesday and we are looking forward to more of this fall weather. It seems like the cool weather is going to be hit or miss but the lingering heat is allowing us to harvest our long season crops. Tomorrow we are going to be harvesting our 5 varieties of winter squash. Once the Butternut, Pie Pumpkins, Spaghetti, Delicata and Acorn squash have a little time to cure, they are going to be in your shares. The flavors of fall are right around the corner.

But for this last week of summer, we have harvested our final peppers and have added them to the shares. These include one of the sweetest peppers we grow, the red and orange Italians, which Cayla and I love to slice or dice and freeze for use in the winter. We also have Pablanos and a little bit of the mad hatter peppers. Plus we are deep into the harvests of our tomatoes so we have included a lot for the shares and even cases to add on for preserving.

I have made sure that there is a lot of food available in Harvie this week so there is plenty of room for swaps and additional purchases.

It has been a heck of season and I am excited about what the next month has in store for our shares and our tummies.

A big thank you for being the wind in our sails through the season. The smiles on the pick up days, the kind notes and heart felt appreciation always help us move forward no matter how tough the day may be. We can't do this with out you.

Fruit Share - We have four weeks left of the fruit season and I am excited about what we are going to be able to send your way. While there are still some late season peaches, which we will keep as add ons, I am hearing the call for fall fruit. So this week we have a large bag of Honey Crisp Apples. I have also found some amazing Boulder county grown table grapes. These amazing grapes are sweet and delicious heirloom grapes that do have seeds. That's how you know it's real, it has seeds.

Add Ons - This week we will have peaches by the bag and cases if you need to do the preserving. We also have both paste tomatoes for sauce and field tomatoes, and bags of mixed bell peppers to meet all your preserving needs. Plus we are happy to have available this week Fair Farm Eggs

Don't forget that we also have flour, mushrooms, fresh flowers and our 2021 honey.

Have a great week,

Michael, Cayla, Aiden and the farmers of Kilt Farm.
