Week 10 of the CSA. So does this means it is hump week?

Posted on August 7th, 2020 by Michael Moss

Week 10, my goodness. We have reached the middle point of our CSA season and all of us at the farm are totally stoked!

We are stoked at the farm for many reasons. Our hard work of planting, tending and weeding is now shifting to harvesting a bounty of summer crops. Even though the days are still super hot, long and filled with hard work, we see the fall crops growing and deep down inside we can see the end on the horizon. I have already had dream about snow boarding, but there is a whole lot of season left before that happens.

Another reason for the stoke is the pepper harvest. This week we started harvesting the first of our bell peppers. Look for the purple peppers in your share this week. In the next few weeks we will be harvesting green bells, red bells and my favorites, red and yellow Italian peppers. Sometimes we have to eat the peppers with blemishes right there in the field 'cause they are so darn good.

The special stoke in my heart is for our cantaloupes and watermelons which are just starting to size up. First up will be our mini love melons in a few weeks. Woohoo!

Fruit Share - This week will be 2 bags of peaches per share. we will be including the fruit share right with your veggies. If there is not enough room in your veggie share tote we will have a second tote with your fruit in it. If you have a fruit share and it is not in your veggie box, please look for another tote with your name on it.

Add ons - This week we are adding some extra produce in the add ons section. We do this to provide more flexibility in your weekly meal planning. Some fun things we have this week:

- Bulk Basil - time to make that pesto

- Pickling Cucumbers

- Green Tomatoes

- Squash Blossoms

- Paste tomatoes - These are Roma plum tomatoes used specifically for sauce

- Peaches

- Flour

- Pasta

- Flowers

- Eggs

- Honey

- Calendula Skin Balm made from our very own organic calendula.

Enjoy the hump week of the CSA. Even though we are half way, there is so much more amazing food ahead of us!

Stay well,

Michael
