Happy Independence Weekend

Posted on July 3rd, 2020 by Michael Moss

Happy 4th of July!

Every year seems to be so different from the year before. This holiday weekend will be the most unique 4th of July in my life. Even though Cayla and I will not be out and about hanging with friends or doing a song along in the CU stadium, I am sure to enjoy and mark my independence. Farming is a very independent way of life and during the pandemic I felt quite set apart just running the farm. As a farmer we set the course of the farm with every decision made through out the season. Every season is different as is every decision made in every situation. I hope that the decisions we make on the farm provide nutrition and health with everyone we interact with through out the season.

This week we are starting to see the very beginning of our summer fruits. We are harvesting the first cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes and summer squash of the season. Plus our high tunnel cucumbers are really starting to blow up. While some of these items may not make it into your share this week, have no worries as you will be inundated shortly.

Customization - One of the great things about our CSA and working with Harvie is we have the ability to customize your share. As we are in the awkward late spring/early summer season of the farm the amount of food that we have to put into the CSA is more limited that we would like. Shortly, there will be much more quantity and variety to choose from, week to week. If you want to customize your box it is best to do the swaps early in the customization period. There tends to be more available initially. Thanks for your support and patience.

We have been thrilled with our partners ship with the Boulder Herb Company for our flower bouquet. These gems will be changing and evolving with the season. Flower bouquets are available each week as an add on to your share.

This week is the last week for the Rouge De Bordeaux flour. This 19th century bread flour was the favorite of French bakers for generations. Breads from Rouge de Bordeaux have a rich, nutty flavor with exquisite aromas of cinnamon and baking spice. Add a 2.5# bag into your share when you customize.
