Farm Happenings for September 26 & 27, 2019

Posted on September 22nd, 2019 by Brendan Prewitt

It's pretty crazy that the next time we write one of these, it'll practically be October! Time is just flying right by around here it seems. We're really starting to notice it now; not only are we loading the trailer in the dark before the farmers' market, but its still a bit dark when we start setting up at the market as well - already seems like forever ago it was light at 5:30!

It looks like we'll finally get the rest of the onions out of the field and into the new barn this week, now that the barn is complete (less the overhead door - hopefully this week?). We're excited to finally be wrapping up our construction projects around here. It'll be weird in a few short weeks when there aren't any contractors or employees showing up anymore! Our last employees leave at the end of October, which will sure be a change for us. The farm is at a weird size that we spend much of our day working at the same tasks our employees are, but also spend our day managing their days, so it'll be weird to go back to just managing our own time for a few weeks until things slowly wind down heading into winter.

Speaking of winding down, we know a lot of people have been asking, so in case you're wondering, the final main season share is the week of October 17th. Optional fall shares continue for another four weeks past that if you joined that as well. From there, whatever we have left will be available at the indoor farmers' market through mid-December. Then we'll be off for a couple months before we fire up the greenhouse in late February to start it all over again.

Other than that, not much is different around here - still lots of harvesting and cleaning up, so we'll let you all get back to enjoying the rest of your weekend.

Have a good week!
