Farm Happenings for July 5, 2022

Posted on July 2nd, 2022 by Ross Ferkett

This week there will be bags of sugar snap peas available in the vegetable boxes. Eat the whole pod! This year we’ve had the biggest pea crop ever! Last year we learned that we could actually start them in the greenhouse and transplant them, which made for a nice full row, and this year we planted them even more densely. Plus the weather has really cooperated, with some cool nights, and a good amount of rain that peas love.

A pair of killdeer have hatched chicks, and now there are 4 of them flying around the farm, calling to each other. We appreciate them because they eat bugs! The cranes are still hanging around, making lots of noise, but usually we only see a pair of them up close in the vegetable fields. They don’t bother any of our plantings, so we enjoy seeing them.

The flower bouquet CSA starts this week on July 5th. For pick up customers, your bouquet will be in a little wooden box with a mason jar with your name/sticker on it. If you get delivery, it will be packed in your CSA box.  Please leave the little wooden box out for us to get the following week, just like the vegetable crates.

SAVE THE DATE! Flower Bar- August 10th-Articipation Week Kick Off. IN WAUPACA Make your own bouquet from all the great flowers in season that week. This event is FREE and sponsored by the Waupaca Community Arts Board.

This time of year is amazing on the farm. Everything is lush, just on the edge of getting out of control. There are a lot of weeds! There is so much to do! We are grateful for the space and time to do this work. So much chaos, and so much wonder all in the same day.
