Winter Share & Farm News Week of November 7

Posted on November 2nd, 2018 by Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht

This is a picture of one of our Cold Frames last winter - with a nice cozy blanket on top of all the baby kale that was growing! This is how we provide veggies year round to our members.

Reminder that Winter Share signups are ongoing - if you're a summer/fall member and you want to continue for year-round organic produce goodness,  you don't have to do ANYTHING!

An auto-renew has been set up through Harvie for Monday, November 12 as a convenience to you to hold your spot in the share.

If you have a vegetable share in summer/fall, you will get a "full diet" share for winter. All the other shares (except flowers) continue the same into winter. Of course you can change this configuration in your dashboard.

By default, your account is already set to auto-renew for the winter using the installment payment plan (not paid in full), so we do suggest going in and double checking that this designation is correct.

If you want to opt out of the auto-renew or change your payment schedule, log into your Harvie account, click “My Profile” and then “Edit Profile”.  Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see a check box to allow auto-renew, along with the payment options (pay in full or payment plan).

Please make your selection to auto-renew or not by Sunday, November 11 so we know if we should hold your spot in the share!

With the good weather this past week (Halloween) we needed to spend the bulk of staff time bringing in large amounts of root crops from the fields, racing against oncoming cold weather that will freeze them. We are talking about acres of sweet potatoes, potatoes, and carrots, for some nice bulky shares coming your way as you prepare for Thanksgiving dinner!

As you can see today it is raining and would you like to be digging potatoes in that all day? well our staff don't really either. And being left in the rain after being dug, can make the potatoes rot.

So especially at this time of year there are weeks where the share may be smaller one week and larger the next. We hope you understand, we're always working to provide great value, but sometimes the short and long term priorities collide and there's no dodging Mother Nature!
