Farm Happenings for August 15, 2018

Posted on August 11th, 2018 by Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht

We are getting ready for the fall, fighting weeds and mowing like crazy, picking blackberries, turning under lettuce that has bolted in the heat wave.

It's so difficult to grow greens in this heat, most greens you see in the market would be from specialized farms in cooler areas, or even South America where it's winter now.

In the heat wave they overheat, so this week we are shifting to "summer crops" - tomatoes, potatoes, peppers etc! They LOVE the heat and grow so well at this time of year. At the farm we had our melon tasting, with 10 different types of melons that we are growing! Enjoy
