Farm Happenings for August 12, 2020

Posted on August 9th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Good morning everyone!

Our pink champagne onions are starting to bulb up nicely.  You will find them in your shares this week.  The stems have not yet fallen to prepare them for long term storage, so these will need to be eaten in a time frame as other fresh vegetables. pink Champagne onions have light purple skins and white flesh.  Sweeter than a purple onion, and beautifully colored!  Purple or Red Potatoes will also be in your share this week.  The purples are purple with purple skin, and reds are more of the potatoes you received two weeks ago.We have so many tomatoes forming, but still few ripening!  We will be adding them to your shares as they ripen.  Let's hope the sun returns to help them along!

I am purchasing cucumbers and zucchini from Four Elements Organics in Sumner this week, as we await ours for harvest.  Napa Cabbage will be added to the rotation along with Sprouting Broccoli, Peppers, Tomatoes and Calendula Flowers and non edible flower bunches this week.  Napa Cabbage is wonderful in stir fry recipes.

We hope you all have a wonderful week. We are going to try to get to Mt. Rainier National Park this week to view the wildflowers in season!
