Farm Happenings for August 5, 2020

Posted on August 2nd, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Good morning and Happy August!

We are loving the heat for our garden, it is helping veggies grow more quickly!  We said goodbye to peas of both varieties this past week, and we will soon be starting green beans.  Tomatoes are starting to ripen, and we will add them into shares as they are ready.  As we are adding new veggies, I want to let you know about the recipe bank on the Harvie website.  In your Sunday customizing email, if you click next to the vegetable variety that is in your share, a drop down recipe list is revealed.  If you are going to receive a vegetable you have not tried before, or would like to find a new way to prepare it, you may find some great menu options here.  Also, if you have time, you may want to re-visit your customization list of likes and don't likes.  If you selected that you do not like a vegetable at all, it will not be placed in your shares.  We have had a few members mistakenly select that they did not want a certain vegetable, and then missed it in their shares.

If you miss your pick-up window, we will have your shares on farm, in our cooler.  We are almost always here, and you can self serve.  It will be in the sliding door cooler if we only have a few shares to store, and in the walk-in cooler if we have more shares to store.

We will continue to rotate kohlrabi, sprouting broccoli, turnips and calendula flowers.  We will also rotate peppers, tomatoes and borage flowers.  The entire flower of the borage plant is edible and has a mild cucumber taste.  As soon as we have enough peppers and tomatoes for entire shares, they will be featured, but for now, they will rotate in.

Have a wonderful week!
