Farm Happenings for July 29, 2020

Posted on July 26th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Good Sunny Sunday to all!

We are so happy to have the sun this week!  It was haying week for the farm, and our veggies are loving the sun and a little heat!  Now we just need to get on top of the weeds that the rain brought out!  We are saying goodbye to peas this week, your share will have either snap or snow peas, but not both.  The plants are about finished producing for the year.  In their beds we will next plant some Romaine and Buttercrunch lettuce, and fall Bok Choi and Arugula.

We will continue to rotate in kohlrabi, sprouting broccoli, Scarlet Queen Turnips, and additionally Calendula flowers as they mature.  The petals of the Calendula are edible, making a nice addition to salads and rice dishes.

Red Potatoes and broccoli will be in the offerings for everyone this week, as well as Iceberg Lettuce.

We are adding Mushroom Logs to the Add Ons this week.  These are Red Alder Logs innoculated with Mushroom spores.  Logs need to be immersed in water once a month, and take several months until they flush with mushrooms.  The logs will feed the mushrooms for several years.  Their website is https://mushrooms-logs.myshopify.com to find out more.

Have a wonderful week, and as always, thank you for your continued support of local, organic agriculture!
