Farm Happenings for July 22, 2020

Posted on July 19th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Good Sunny Morning everyone!

The garden is loving the heat!  Veggies are growing at a much better rate with the added sun and heat.  Yes!  In this week's shares, we will be continuing to rotate in sprouting broccoli and Azure Star Kohlrabi, and are now adding Scarlet Queen Turnips.  I love both kohlrabi and turnips roasted with some olive oil, salt and pepper, and a bit of rosemary.  The Scarlet Queen Turnips are red fleshed, with white interiors splashed with streaks of red.  Their leaves are smooth are delicious turnip greens. They live up to their name!  Azure Star Kohlrabi is dark purple, produces squatty globe shaped vegetables, have a mild brassica flavor, and are buttery smooth in texture. Broccoli is starting to head up, with large shares getting broccoli heads this week.  Small shares will receive rainbow chard in all of its color glory.  Strawberries are about done for the year, but we will those left ripening in the shares as well.

With twice replanting of squash due to rain and cold soil temps,  our summer squash is delayed until August.  Four Elements in Orting has their first zucchini coming ripe this week, so we are purchasing some for you to round out your shares and get you into some squash!!

As always, thank you for your support of local organic agriculture.  Our mission is to provide healthy food for our family and yours; you are the reason we farm.  Please let us know if there is a way we can serve you better.

Happy Summer to all... finally!
