Farm Happenings for July 15, 2020

Posted on July 12th, 2020 by Claudia Frey

Good morning everyone!

Welcome to week 6 of the 2020 CSA Season!

We will be starting snow pea harvest this week, as well as introducing broccoli in shares as crowns mature.  We have been grateful for the few sunny days we had this past week, or were they sunny moments?  Anyway, we are grateful for less rain and a little more warmth for our soil.  In addition to your options this week, we will continue to rotate in azure star kohlrabi, sprouting broccoli, and strawberries in addition to the broccoli crowns.  We are keeping track of who gets which rotation so that you get some of each during the harvest.   Azure star kohlrabi is my favorite, slightly flattened circles with deliciously mild brassica flavor!  Jim peels and eats them like an apple, while I love them chopped in salads and sliced thick for roasting.  We are waiting on our next head lettuce beds to mature, so this week we are purchasing some Romaine heads from Four Elements for your shares.  Our spring mix lettuces are coming on. Last week large shares received the reds, this week small shares will receive the red and green mixed.

We really appreciate the feedback regarding our produce, Harvie, delivery, and the like.  We love to know when we are doing well, and also very much want to know when we can do better.  Our mission is to provide healthy food for our family and yours.  Your feedback helps us ensure we are bringing you the best we have to offer!

Creekside Soaps have added shampoo bars and lotion bars this week in our Extras.  Both have offerings for those of us spending much time outside this summer, with added tea tree oil and other essential oils to ward off biting insects!

Have a wonderful week-- here is to some warmer weather as our hay awaits harvest!
