Farm Happenings for September 2, 2020

Posted on August 29th, 2020 by Naomi Martz

Well folks, we are rolling into September! September is one of our busiest months at the farm, with many crops ready to come out the field and into storage (hello onions and squashes!).  We've got our propagation greenhouse filled with onions drying out, to ensure a good supply for you in the coming months; and the yellow onions are just needing a few more days in the field.  Our new cooler is up and running and getting filled with potatoes.  We planted lots of our famous Sieglinde variety (the German butter potato), as well as some Red Chieftains, Russian Blue (purple), and Russets for mashing and baking.  Yum!

This week is the final pick up for our Summer Season CSA.  Most of you are signed up for the "Full season", which includes the Autumn as well, but if you're not then there are still spots available to hop onboard for Autumn.  You can do this online with Harvie, but send an email if you need a hand sorting it out.     Feel free to TELL YOUR FRIENDS that there are shares available.  We are always cautious about signing up to capacity in the early season, to make sure there is an abundance and variety for everyone, but the fields are looking good and we are thrilled with the overall yields so far.  Yum!

That's all for this week, short and sweet for an update.  Thank you for being part of our farm-ily, for being creative in the kitchen, for participating in and for supporting local agriculture, and for keeping our small farm ticking right along.
