It’s Week 2 of the Spring Farm Share!

Administrative Details

For some of the biweekly folks, it’s your first share, so here are a few things you need to know:

You are getting this email to let you know it’s time to customize your share, you will have until 9:00 p.m. on Monday April 8th to do so.

Here’s a how to file: https://harvie.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/1260802865550-Customizing-Your-Box-

If you run into any issues, please email support@harvie.zendesk.com, you can also reach out to me at firmlyrootedfarm@gmail.com

If you run into issues at your first pick-up, please reach out to me at 519 441 1556.

Pick-up Locations Notes:

Most of our locations are pretty straightforward but 292 Townsend, Clinton, and on-farm are a little less so.

292 Townsend Street in Clinton is a house behind the Tim Hortons.  The shares are in the garage- go through the small man-door to the left of the garage door to enter and collect your share.

On-farm: We are located at 84400 Currie Line, Belgrave, and the Farm share pick up is self-serve.  At the end of the driveway there is a small barn, enter the barn, and on the back wall you’ll find a walk-in cooler.  Inside on the left there are shelves with your share.

What’s in the Box

All of our microgreens look spectacular this week and I can promise they will make all of your meals look the same.  Just sprinkle them on any dish for some crunch, color, and a concentrated hit of nutrients.

We are loving sweet potatoes these days. I hoarded them all through the winter because they hold so darn well and pair so perfectly with early spring greens.  Here's a great sweet potato curry recipe.  It calls for spinach but I find it works great with any cooking green (kale, chard, etc.).

Our first arugula planting is ready and it's my favorite spring green.  Pair it with beets, goat cheese and nuts for the perfect salad.

On the Farm

The windstorm on Wednesday had me pretty nervous but I suppose the weather God's were smiling on us here at Firmly Rooted because our greenhouses are all still standing.  Phew.

We are steadily harvesting and clearing our overwintered crops and replacing them with early spring greens.  Our first tomatoes are a few inches tall in the seedling nursery and we'll soon pot them up so they can stretch out before it's time to plant them in our heated houses mid-month.  I've been craving cherry tomatoes like crazy these days, but I know they are worth the wait, and until then, I'm pretty darn excited about the arrival of fresh greens and herbs.

I hope you enjoy these first tastes of spring.

That’s all for now, happy eating until next time,

Farmer Tamara
