Farm Happenings for November 30, 2023

Posted on November 24th, 2023 by Tamara McMullen

Hi Everyone!

Things have been slowing down on the farm. Since there is less work we keep saying goodbye to employees as they leave the farm to enjoy their winters at home and cozy. We have been spending our weeks cleaning up the fields outside, covering and protecting our greenhouse grown crops with row cover, and tidying up the farm to be ready for next spring. We also had some fun this week making wreaths with fresh greenery from Brian's home farm. Keep an eye out for those on the CSA list in the coming weeks!

However we still do have three remaining weeks left of the CSA this year and lots of fresh greens and delicious root vegetables to offer. Our spinach is plentiful and happy (it loves the cold!) and there's lots to get this week. Arugula is done, but we still have another week or two left of our spicy salad greens, so grab those while you can! Plus baby kale, chard, lettuce, and cilantro are doing great. We have green cabbages from Red Pine Corner Farm, grown by Chris Ma (who works here with us one day a week) and his family. Potatoes and butternut squash from Boettchers Farm and Onions from Middlecamp Family Farm are still available. Be sure to grab some apples from Apple Creek Farm in Drayton. Not to mention the bounty from here at Firmly Rooted: red cabbages, sweet potatoes, carrots (rainbow carrots are back this week!), salad turnips, radishes, kohl rabi, daikon radishes and more!

Thanks for returning our cooler bags and clips! Please keep it up! (it makes packing CSA shares so much easier!)
