Lettuce Rejoice! July 28, 2022 - Fairy Tale Time

Posted on July 22nd, 2022 by Tamara McMullen

Administrative Details:

Hey folks, we are missing all sorts of bags. If you’ve been accidentally hoarding a few please bring them back to us. Thanks in advance!

What’s in the box?:

The first of the beans are coming on strong! In the next week or so there will be enough for everyone (possibly more then enough…). We planted some, but also partnered with a local homesteading family, and friends of ours, to grow the beans this year. They are being grown organically and are picked fresh and delivered to our farm the same day to share with you all.

The eggplant is ripening beautifully, and the second planting of zucchini is ready to pick meaning we’ll have lots of these lovelies. The cherry tomatoes are finally heavy with fruit and the full sized ones are coming in at a slow trickle.

On the Farm:
We’ve arrived at the time of year where the farm begins to look like something out of a fairy tale, one full of ripe, delicious, luscious things.

Everywhere you look there are flowers bursting, fruit ripening, bees buzzing, and ruby-toned ladybugs doing their good work. The tree and leopard frogs are in abundance and we can often be found cooing over them.

These are good days, LOOOONG, hot ones, but good days. Or perhaps I’ve got rose colored glasses on because we finally got some real RAIN! Not quite a half inch, and not nearly what we need to keep up with the heat, but it was such a glorious, gentle rain with no wind or hail and I enjoyed every drop, and every moment, as I walked the farm and watched it all soak in or pool.

The storage crops are going in smoothly and I have high hopes that the work we’ve done ahead of planting will result in good weed control and high yields.  We'll be lauching the Winter Share auto renew in the next few weeks and will keep you informed, you can also chose to go ahead and register outside of the autorenew.  It's going to be a good one!

I should get back at it, but wanted to extend my sincere thanks to all of you for being part of the farm.

In gratitude,
Farmer Tamara

Happy eating until next time!
