Firmly Rooted Winter CSA Week 9

Administration:

Can you believe that this is the second to last week of the winter CSA?

We'll be taking some downtime, to recover and to plan, and will start doing monthly (possibly biweekly) boxes starting in February, with the spring share starting in early April.  We'll launch CSA registration mid January and I promise that you, our loyal members will be the first to know.

We'll are offering several vegetables in bulk quantities over the next two weeks for those of you that would like to stock up.  You can find these in the extra's section.

Remember to email me with any suggestions for 2021 (firmlyrootedfarm@gmail.com). So far I've heard: yellow beans, patty pan squash, more herbs (thyme, oregano, sage, rosemary, thai basil), spaghetti squash, pie pumpkins, and watermelon.

What you can expect in the share:

We are offering a medley of all of our storage radishes: a gorgeous mix of watermelon, purple daikon and green daikon.  Can you imagine the salads?

This will be the last week for baby kale, and it's available in limited quantities.

This week we are featuring full size curly kale and swiss chard.  They don't get any better than they are now.  If you are used to cooking with them, then I'd highly suggest giving them a try raw.  Just slice into ribbons, and marinate/massage to mitigate any toughness.

On the Farm

We've absolutely loved feeding you thus far, but are also looking forward to the break that we hope to fill with various culinary pursuits. Let's face it: when you take the farmer out of the field you'll find them in the kitchen (or on a seed suppliers website, it's an addiction).  Speaking of cooking, I've absolutely been loving a new cookbook called "Ruffage" by Abra Berens.  It written by a chef who once ran a market garden; it's very vegetable-centric, and the recipes are very flexible.  It's changing the way I enjoy my produce and I highly recommend it.

That's all for now folks, happy eating until next time!
