Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July. We've just hired a new CSA Manager!  Her name is Barbara Amezcua and we're super excited to have her join the team.  I'll introduce her via the newsletternext week.  She has heaps of customer service experience, having worked for New Leaf in Half Moon Bay as well as a few local Pescadero businesses over the years.

Lot's of new additions to the list of what is coming out of our fields.  This week we have some lovely Spring Onions (i.e. they're fresh, not cured).  P.S. you can use the tops like scallions, or diced up in Korean Pancakes or Pajeon. We also have heaps of carrots and decided to put 2lb bags in the box.  If that's a bit too much for you, you can swap for just a regular sized bunch. Cucumbers are just starting as are green beans- the supply is limited, so if you don't see them available look again next week. We're going to try to harvest our first potatoes tomorrow.. plan on seeing those in your boxes starting next week.  Oh, and there's plenty plenty of basil and summer squash.  If you want to make and freeze pesto, there should be plenty.

This week is a bean week- the first week of every month I put one of our varieties of heirloom dry beans into boxes.  That variety and one other will remain as swap-able items the rest of this month for $1 less than our retail price.  This month's beans are called Calypso.  They are bi-color- white and black and remain bicolored even after cooking.  I liken their texture to a new potato.  They're very creamy and dense and are lovely in a cold salad, or tossed with pesto over pasta.  They tend to hold up better to cooking than some of our other varieties.
