Getting ready for frost

Posted on October 6th, 2018 by Heather Coffey

This week we had a little frost scare, but we didn't go below 4C so we're very glad! We got doors installed on the greenhouse, did a full green pepper pick, and got all our winter squashes safe curing in the greenhouse. It's interesting that many farms and markets quiet down after thanksgiving - but for us there's still so much delicious in the fields. We can usually continue harvesting various cold hardy crops into December, and of course our storage crops jump in to fill out the diversity. Some exciting crops coming up in the last few weeks of our summer CSA include our sweet potatoes, kalettes, napa cabbage, and hopefully the first of our frost sweetened carrots for when that frost does come.
