[CSA Update] Welcome to week 17

Posted on May 27th, 2022 by Ida DeFrancesco

How many of those New Year's resolutions did you complete or even still have on your weekly goals? A sunny day should generate just as much excitement with all summer's potential. Making changes can be daunting. We've got five simple habits to help you celebrate summer with your farm share and keep you happy and healthy in 2022!

You have a farm share which means you have vegetables and soon fruits. Establishing healthy eating habits is easier when a friend supports you and keeps you accountable. Sharing recipes and planning meals keep your options fresh. Our refer-a-friend program makes it simple to get friends on board. Send the link from inside your Harvie account.

We all snack! Even I don't have time to sit down and eat a healthy lunch every day - we are all on the go. But snacks don't have to make you feel guilty later. Replace your go-to snacks and vending machine faves with some flavor-packed fresh vegetables already prepped and portioned out. You can even dehydrate a few snacks and have them ready on the go.

Do you need to pack nutrient-dense foods in a quick minute? Give smoothies and juices a try. Stick to an 80/20 ratio of vegetables to fruits to keep your sugars in check if you are starting. We love those small personal blenders that can mix inside the drink cup - if you have space for a limited use gadget in your kitchen storage. When you customize your next farm share, get to experimenting and add more of your favorite veggies for juicing.

Getting a good night's rest is the secret around my farm to let my mind and body reset and de-stress. If you find it's difficult to relax once your head hits the pillow, look to your lavender plant from your farm share! Make a lavender sachet and enjoy the calming benefits of those tiny purple blooms.

Ever thought of prepping and freezing for use throughout the week? Keep this trick on hand when the veggies that take a little more time to prep and chop come in your farm share later on. (winter squash, for one). Just place your cut produce in a single layer on a pan, freeze, and then portion into a freezer storage container. And you can make purees and broths for use in soups and sauces.
