[CSA Update] Welcome to week 11

Posted on July 10th, 2020 by Ida DeFrancesco

You have an excellent farm share heading your way. Can you take an afternoon and hit the road for an adventure? Any day. Any afternoon. That inner voice can scream about all the things you need to do, all the reasons you hate going out in the heat, and all the people who need you to do something for them. Listen to that voice and realize you trained your brain to create those barriers by default. Would it feel good to get outside, away from the usual routine, and have a couple of hours without interruptions? Can you optimize your to-do list to free up just a little bit of space in your week?

Looking over what is picking this week - you have snackables that don't require much prep (blueberries, peaches, beans). Think picnic. You have the makings of some tremendous cold salads that you can prep ahead of time. You have some flavors that scream summer. Do you have a picnic basket hidden in the garage that you could use? Do you have a cooler with a quick rinse that will look new and fit in the back seat? Do you have a refrigerator bag that could be put in the shady spot in your car with some ice packs?

Make the commitment to yourself to take this time out. Go to the park. Go to the beach. Go to a walking trail. Go on a scenic drive past an overlook - and pull into the overlook and snap some pictures. Take the mask off and feel the sun on your face. Leave your phone on do not disturb - and leave it alone.
Is all work and no play really how you want to spend your summer? Go out and play this week.
