Farm Happenings for October 5, 2018

Posted on September 30th, 2018 by Mike Nolan

Hello Friends,   I hope enjoyed this amazing weekend, it’s hard to ignore the air quality. Somehow it makes some things better. At least for me.   Two weeks left in the main CSA season. I think a 20 week season is nice and gives people a chance to sample what a farm can produce. Then it’s either onto the fall CSA and/or head to the weekly farmers market. For those of you in PA our farm store is open 7 days a week from 7am to 7pm, all year. This fall and winter will be the best ever because we have a 3rd greenhouse up and I am taking the tomatoes out, preparing the soil and reinforcing the structure for snow and precipitation. With all of the rains we had this year it could be a big snow winter. If you are stopping by the farm store in February and it is cold, sunny and snow on the ground then be sure to call me and come check out the green houses. It’s one of my favorite times of year when the days just start to lengthen and the temperature contrast from outdoors to the greenhouse can be up to 60 or 70 degrees! A little bit of Hawaii in Pennsylvania.   Next year will also see the farm op en up as a Air BnB site. I will keep you all posted and you can make reservations early. It will be a true farm experience and a nice respite from urban life.
