Farm Happenings for May 19 & 20, 2023

Posted on May 14th, 2023 by Mike Nolan

Friends,

The days are getting longer and warmer and that means we are racing around the farm 7 days a week to prepare and plant all of the produce, herbs and flowers that you love to have in your kitchen!  As I mentioned last week this is also a transition period between the spring greens and summer veg like cucumber, zucchini, tomatoes and peppers and the warm nights are what we really need to push these crops.  Tomatoes and cucumbers are in the greenhouses but the others go into the field and planted on biodegradable black plastic with hoops and row cover over the top to keep them warm.  Once the plants grow to 18" we remove the row cover and let the bees in for pollination.

We are buying in some wild ramps now and Jena will be making ramp butter which will be available for you in the boxes this week. Ranunculus will now be combined with some amazing peonies for bouquets this week. Below is a link to force peonies and/ or keep the blooms fresh and hydrated.

Thanks and talk to you soon.
