Farm Happenings for August 17, 2021 - Lots of Extras Available!

Posted on August 15th, 2021 by Sarah Brown

Ok, the wave is cresting, we're riding a torrent of food, and we are so excited (and humbled) to share the bounty of this land. The crew has been bustling and busting through heat and smoke, managing the mid-summer harvest load, all the while taking my onslaught of requests among ever-shifting priorities with great humor and ceaseless energy. I was just telling someone this week that one of my favorite parts of farming is building an active livelihood that we can share with other people who believe in, and commit themselves to, the work. Our employees are everything to this endeavor, and having had the pleasure of working in collaboration with such good, positive folks, I'd never again want to do it alone.

Mid August is maximum level. All the things, all the time. The irony of the largest harvests (and significant field work) coming during the harshest conditions is not lost on us during these heavy, 100+ degree days. But it's also when we get to stuff ourselves with sweet corn, rustling and giggling through the corn patch like a pack of sugar-delirious raccoons. It's when we remember the smoky, rich, sweetness of roasted peppers and the magic of balsamic vinegar on a big meaty slab of tomato. There are so many textures and flavors and smells, that when I stop to feel immersed in the food, all the work seems like a small hurdle for the lustrous and sustaining reward. We are so fortunate. And so rich with sustenance.

Please order Extras! This week you'll find:

- Bulk bags of Basil - pesto or just blended with olive oil and frozen in ice cube trays. Easy peasy. Basil all winter.

- Bulk bags of Bell Peppers - sliced/chopped and frozen in ziploc bags. No trouble. Peppers all winter

- Bulk boxes of Sweet Corn - blanched, then sliced off the cob, frozen in bags. Simple. Corn all winter.

- Bulk boxes of Tomatoes - salsa, sauce, whole, canned, frozen, etc, etc. You know the drill.

As always, please reach out with any questions or thoughts. We love to hear from you.

Your Farmers,

Conner + Sarah
