I hope you are finding peace and safety and gratitude during this holiday weekend. We've got plenty of work to do for ..."liberty and justice for all", though it is a noble ideal, and one that surely deserves our allegiance.
Perfection should not be the enemy of the good - we must keep trying to build a better society even as we come to understand, accept, and articulate the complex and challenging truths of our nation's inception and perpetuation. We are imperfect creatures, our experiment in governance and civics is imperfect, our ideas, motives and memories are all...imperfect.
But we're here, and for many of us, we've been gifted enormous freedoms, and even greater privilege. May the future history of our nation be characterized not by how far we flew or how high we built but by how we choose to mobilize our great collective fortune for a true and meaningful manifestation of liberty and justice for all.
Yours, in Farming, and in this Grand Experiment that is the United States of America,
