Winter Market Goodies!

Posted on April 9th, 2021 by Sarah Brown

Hello Farm Friends;

It's been awhile since we've been in touch! This incredibly sunny, dry Spring has us running in circles, doing all the things at once. Fields and beds are getting prepped and planted much earlier than in a "normal" year....whatever that means. ALL of our incredible, dedicated, experienced crew are returning in some capacity for the 2021 season. I am a lucky farmer to have such good people, and such solid help in manifesting this vision and wrangling the Spring beast.

We're feeling energized after a long, quiet winter, and inspired and optimistic regardless of the ice-pocalyspe and it's ongoing aftermath. The destruction wrought along the riparian corridor of this land has us doubling down on native tree and shrub planting, as well as continued clearing of blackberry, ivy, and tansy. Slowly, it seems, the ecology is shifting, and new textures and canopies are beginning to form. We'll be cleaning up downed trees and branches for years to come, and the added work is hard work to be sure, but the focus on the forest and the wild parts of our place feels good. If you are at all interested to know more about what's going on with regard to habitat restoration and conservation work on the farm, please don't hesitate to ask at market, or send us an email! I'm hoping to compose a more detailed description (with drone footage!) of the conservation work in the future. Stay tuned!

Please note, we will be attending the Silverton Winter Farmers Market at Friends Church on Eureka Ave, Saturdays, from 10am-Noon, all of April, until we move outdoors and back to the regular summer location across from Town Square Park. Regular season market begins May 8th. Please spread the word! Our CSA is approaching capacity for 2021, but if we've missed you somehow, please don't hesitate to reach out soon. We'll do our best to squeeze you in! Thank you to everyone who has already taken the plunge into another round of fresh, organic seasonal eating.  And also, please know that once again we will be offering "Farm Stand" (customizable one-time box orders) throughout the season, for pick-up on Saturdays at market and/or on Tuesdays during our regular CSA pick-up window. If you haven't had a chance to sign up to receive farm stand emails, please do so here.

Market tomorrow will welcome some of the first tender Spring greens. We will have LOTS of beautiful luscious spinach and some decadent baby mustard salad mix. These, along with leeks, baby turnip bunches, parsley, chard, and the last of the purple potatoes and winter squash will round out our early April offerings. We feel very lucky to be filling this typical production gap with such lovely food!

AND MEAT! We'll have the usual pasture raised pork in the form of amazing sausage (chorizo, Italian, French garlic, breakfast), as well as bacon and a few of the last choice cuts of lamb until July.

We hope to see you all tomorrow. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out, and enjoy the sunshine!
