Farm Happenings for June 13, 2020

Posted on June 11th, 2020 by Sarah Brown

Good Morning!

This is our last week before the summer season CSA begins. Hard to believe it's already mid-June. Things in the field are happily watered, if not a little cold. Growth rates have been slower than anticipated, but honestly, the gift of rain in June provides us an opportunity to slow down during a time of year that is often completely out of hand. So we've been tackling some long-deferred projects and watching ALL of the weed seeds germinate in the fields - job security for our amazing crew of cultivation masters. :)

In anticipation of our first CSA share, this week's availability is lighter than usual. We are in a natural gap between carrot and lettuce plantings, and before the summer fruits (cukes, zukes, tomatoes) really hit their stride. The sweet onions are a couple weeks away, and the basil is finally starting to pop (though reluctantly).

If you've joined our CSA for the summer, please be on the lookout for an email with logistics information this week.  Otherwise, please bear with us as this cool early summer kicks into gear. There will be Farm Stand availability every Saturday, but it may be somewhat limited until the weather really shifts.

We hope you all are finding time to take care of yourselves while staying engaged, informed, and activated. Sometimes the weight of our responsibility as constructive and positive pieces in the human experiment can feel so overwhelming in its many facets, pitfalls and possibilities. While we strive to be better, we have to remember to breathe in the moment, to give our brains a respite from the certainty of change and the discomfort of revolution. We cannot sit with the discomfort and accept our responsibility if we do not first ground ourselves in the reality, the miracle, and the fragility of our existence. That's my practice this week.

Your Farmers,

Conner and Sarah
