Farm Happenings for May 30, 2023

Posted on May 26th, 2023 by Alex Smith

Hey DCF Farmily,

I hope everyone enjoyed the produce last week. For the folks picking up for the first time this week:  Hey! I'm Alex, the new vegetable grower.

This week has been a whirlwind of onboarding a very promising crew of student workers and apprentices. After tight staffing between exams and graduation, it's been nice to have an enthusiastic and capable crew. I think you will find that they are doing a great job picking the vegetables!

As I'm sure you all have noticed, it is unseasonably dry. The upside, is that we can work fields at our convenience and aren't scrambling to get plants in before rain. The downside is that we are spending a lot of time and energy irrigating. As a farmer, folks have always asked me about the weather. The truth is:  I don't fret much over it. It's our job to adapt to the weather as best as possible. Any sort of weather is going to be good for some things and bad for others; so, in the end, it's all good.

This weeks featured pic is the two Emily's and Raymond transplanting tomatoes.

Enjoy the warm sunny days and cool clear nights!
