Farm Happenings for June 18, 2021

Posted on June 14th, 2021 by Will Nelson

This week has been a humid one, and we’ve been busy picking strawberries, and transplanting winter squash and leeks. We also did a lot of weeding in the onions and pruning and trellising of tomatoes and uncovered big beautiful summer squash beds so they can get pollinated and start to make fruit! Highlights have been the winter squash varieties with names like honeyboat and tuffy, dousing our heads periodically in the field pumps and endless conversation with fellow farmers. We had an educational lesson from our vegetable production manager, Will, on Monday about crop planning and continue to harvest greens, radishes and turnips as well as scallions and lettuces . Peas are just starting to come in as well. Come see us at Farmers on the Square! Our pizza special is currently a spinach pesto base topped with cheese and strawberries with a balsamic drizzle- it’s scrumptious! Enjoy your veggies and thanks for being part of our community.
